The moral of this story is for children to remember that your parents always have your best intentions at heart and don't always mean to embarrass you. For a majority of this book, the main character Symphony Smythe was worried about her upcoming birthday because she had wanted to throw a huge party but was unsure as to whether or not her party would be considered cool enough by her peers. Her mom only keeps heathy, organic food inside their house and her Dad is scientist who is known to their neighbors as the "Nutty Inventor". Based on this, Symphony is scared to death that her parents will embarrass her in front of all of her friends at the party due to their lack of normalcy- when that's all she's ever wanted to begin with.

Despite her parents reassuring her at multiple points in the story that everything will turn out just fine, she is still so worried about this party and begins to retreat more often to her room instead of socialization with her parents as she normally does. But, to her surprise, what happens on the day of party shocks not only her, but the reader as well when we learn what her parents have done for her. They had promised her time and time again that the party would be a success and they is what they make sure would happen for their one and only daughter. Even though they may have embarrassed her before on many different occasions without meaning too, they make up for it by ensuring that their daughter and all of her guest have a great time at the party.
