To get MY friends to read it I would tell them it's 100 pages and there's a gang who beat up some guy and put him in the hospital. Q3P3 AHS/Wyatt F

After taking a different way home from school, best friends Shawn and Daniel witness a violent beating. The two boys were able to see who was involved but are now in fear of being caught. They are also too frightened to tell anyone what they saw in fear of retribution. As the book moves on, the boys realize that they may have been seen and recognized by the attackers that night. The boys have a difficult decision to make and the more time they wait leaves a better chance of deciding too late. This is an exciting Hi lo book, perfect for 4th and 5th graders but with a reading level much lower. It is fast paced, accessible for reluctant readers, and has an exciting but easy to follow plot. See No Evil is a great book to have in your collection of Hi lo books and struggling readers will enjoy reading a good story. ( )

Taking a shortcut home from school, Shawn and Daniel are strolling down the service lane behind the mall when they see someone being kicked and beaten by three guys. They recognize one of the attackers as a local gang member. Terrified that they might be next, they make a run for the mall entrance, escaping the pursuing boy.

Shawn wants to go to the police when they learn that the kid who was attacked is in critical condition, but Daniel is afraid that the attackers will come after them if they report what they saw. Then they are threatened by other gang members.

The ID card that Daniel lost when he was running from the gang members is turned in to the Police Department and they question Daniel, thinking he might have been involved in the beating that they witnessed. Then, as a severe warning, Daniel, too, is attacked and beaten by those same gang members, and Shawn has to put his own safety at risk to help his friend.

SEE NO EVIL is an exciting story about right and wrong and the gray areas in between, with compelling characters and a plot that is right out of today's headlines. It's a quick, easy read, in a book size that will appeal to those reluctant readers. They will be motivated by the fast-paced action scenes of this high-interest, lower reading level story as presented by Orca Book Publishers, and it's guaranteed to keep their attention riveted on the story to the very end. It was an interesting contemporary piece, but the other aspects weighted it down.
The storyline wasn't very oridinal and the reader never got to understand the characters' personalities until the end. It was also repetitive with the main character asking himself questions.
