I got this book to review through NetGalley. This was a good continuation of the Treasure Chronicles. The writing is well done, easy to read, and makes for a book that is hard to put down. There are a lot more politics/conspiracy and less steampunk adventure than in the previous two books; so I didn't like it quite as much as the first two books. However, it was still an excellent read.

Time has past since the second book; Clark and Amethyst are well off and have a young daughter. I continue to enjoy Clark and Amethyst quite a bit, they are very fun characters to read about.

I was a bit disappointed that there aren’t a ton of steampunk elements in this book. We do get to venture through a clockwork circus which was neat. However, most of the story focused on a government conspiracy around the type of research and elixirs that gave Clark his special abilities.

Even though I don’t usually enjoy conspiracy novels with a lot of political content; Elizabeth’s writing flows beautifully and is very easy and engaging to read. I whipped right through this book and enjoyed it a lot.

Overall this was a good continuation of the Treasure Chronicles. I enjoyed the characters and the world. I was a bit disappointed on all the focus on conspiracy and the reduction of steampunky goodness. However this is still a very good read. I would recommend to those who enjoy historical fantasy with some adventure and paranormal elements. ( )
