Cinderella from the Once Upon a World series takes the story of Cinderella and translate it into one that expresses a Hispanic culture.
The story takes place in Mexico. Instead of a ball Cinderella and her stepfamily are invented to a fiesta. When Cinderella is transformed her gown reminds me of the gowns girls where to their quinceañera. The plot is the same as the traditional Cinderella story most people are familiar with. The colors used in the illustrations like all of the Once Upon A World books are very vibrant and attractive. It's a board book with simple easy to read text. Young children will enjoy the story as it's been enjoyed for years, but will also get exposure to a different culture if there are not familiar with Mexico's culture. ( )

This book follows the exact story of the original Cinderella. A girl named Cinderella lives with her evil stepmom and two step sisters. All day, every day Cinderella spends her time cleaning the house and doing whatever her stepmom and step-sisters tell her to do. One day the kings messenger knocks at the door inviting all of them to his ball. The stepmom and step-sisters tell Cinderella she needs to make them dresses for the ball and do not ask her to go. Cinderella makes the dresses and the night of the ball her sisters and stepmom leave. Cinderella is so upset because she wanted to go to the ball, when all of a sudden her fairy god mother appears. She turns a pumpkin into a carriage, a mouse into a horse, and a dog into a coachman. She even gives Cinderella a beautiful gown and glass slippers to wear. The only catch is Cinderella has to be home by midnight. Cinderella goes to the ball and meets the prince, the prince falls in love with Cinderella but before he can discover who she is she leaves before the clock strikes 12. In her rush to leave she accidentally leaves one of her glass slippers behind The next day in their cottage where Cinderella, her step-sisters, and her stepmom live they get a knock on the door from the kinds messenger and the prince himself. The prince has the glass slipper and asks the sisters and Cinderella to try on the slipper. Whoever it fits must be the girl from the ball. The first sister tries on the slipper and it is too big, the next sister tries on the slipper and it is too big. Cinderella tries on the slipper and it fits just right. The prince and her fall in love and live happily ever after. The message to this story is good things come to good people. ( )
