Good, but I really prefer the movie in this case. I've watched it dozens of times and it has become one of my top favorites. The movie seems to have a better flow, with the characters more interconnected than the book. With the book version, I never really connected with the main character. I just didn't care as much. While the movie is not significantly different from the book, only 3-4 annectdotes added and the ending version modified, it feels more polished, finished and satisfying. Perhaps much has to do with the fine performances of some outstanding actors in their prime that appear in the film. ( )

This is much more than the sentimental tale of a dedicated teacher reflecting on her life. It offers a critique of the modern approach to both teaching and nursing, and provides a strong underlying message: be wary of the illusory appeal of new ideas. Continued ( )
