I just couldn't continue reading these books. I've read 1 book and 55 pages of this serie, but can't really get into it. Sure, the characters (not including Claire) are interesting enough. This serie has a lot of things more right in my opinion than a lot of other vampire series.

But that doesn't really matter if I didn't like it, does it? I think what ruines it for me is not exciting enough plots, a very annoying main character named Claire (don't get me started about her) and some (if possible) more annoying writing. I don't know if it's necessary bad, but in my norwegian translation at least, it's not exactly good either. Which means it's bad. Very. Tthere are a lot of unecessary sentencess and comments that makes my hands itchy wanting to rewrite them. Other than that the books are short and simple. Maybe more fitting for someone who hasn't read a lot of vampire books yet. Not anything for me. ( )

Rachel Caine writes one of my favorite vampire YA series. She is the queen of the cliffhanger. ( )

Great, action-packed book...doesn't slow down a bit from the first one.

Brand new problems have arrived in Morganville, and there's no break whatsoever for Claire and her three housemates. Her new boyfriend Shane's nasty vampire-hunting dad and his gang of bikers have invaded the town. Her friend Eve's brother, a convicted murderer, is out of jail and might be in the area. More than one vampire is interested in Claire and her friends, and definitely not in good ways.

And when Shane turns up at the scene of a vampire murder, Claire ends up smack in the center of all the blame, intrigue, violence, and danger. Again.

There's tons of twists, smart and humorous dialogue, touches of warm romance, some really intense hold-your-breath scenes, and bold and enjoyable characters, some of them newcomers. I especially liked on-the-fence vampire Sam and getting to learn more about Amelie. And of course, I can already tell Caine likes to end all her books with cliffhangers...which means I can't wait to start the next one. ( )

Complaints:
-Claire's parents' visit to Morganville is cut out at the knees with a small paragraph about Morganville's mind control.... haze... thing... must be getting to them because they are no longer interested in Claire living with boys! off campus! without their permission! and with beer! Literally an important plot point in the last book and its discarded in a sentence or two. OK.
-Some friendly human cops decide to help out Eve and Claire by driving them to campus for work/class on their off duty time. While they are at the house telling the girls the plan, Frank and his biker goons sneak in and threaten Claire. If these detectives are so concerned with the girls' safety why didn't they make sure all of the doors in the house are locked? Why no checking for hidey holes or loose boards or lectures on how to secure a home from invaders? And why, after being threatened in her kitchen with cops sitting all cosy in the living room, did Claire not instantly decide not to trust these incompitant cops with her and Eve's lives? (Answer: it is easier for Caine to make the detectives careless and the bikers mean and dumb than it is to make the detectives actually good at their jobs and the bikers work to make their chaos)
-The cops drive them around for one day and one night. Then Eve drives or Claire walks. Why make all of that fuss for nothing??? Why even include it!!??!
-If it is so easy to mess with the minds of the people inside Morganville (see: Claire's parents) then why does Monica run around being psychotic and an admitted nuisance to freaking everyone? Her own brother hates her! Brain haze her! Get this insane person under some kind of control WTF!
-Claire forgives her attemped gang rapists (gross ew wtf) because "they weren't monsters, those guys. In fact, they were probably okay most of the time." Cue flashback to a day or two prior when one of those almost gang rapists bullied Eve into cleaning up the coffee he intentionally spilled and, "He quickly stepped up behind her and began banging his crotch against her butt." Claire? Caine? Whoever thinks gang raping a girl is sometimes done by good boys? STFU.
-I have a headache from headdesking.

Pros:
-Eve remains cute
-Lisa and Gramma ( )

A little more action than the first in the series. I'm not sure if I'll continue reading the series, it does help with a long car ride though ( )
