The evidence is irrefutable: In sixteen New York Times bestsellers over the course of as many years, Kathy Reichs has proven herself "a genius at building suspense" (New York Daily News). In forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan, Reichs has created a detective fiction heroine who's brilliant to the bone. "Every minute in the morgue with Tempe is golden," says The New York Times Book Review. In the acclaimed author's thrilling new novel, Brennan is at the top of her game in a battle of wits against the most monstrous adversary she has ever encountered. Unexpectedly called in to the Charlotte PD's Cold Case Unit, Dr. Temperance Brennan wonders why she's been asked to meet with a homicide cop who's a long way from his own jurisdiction. Bones Never Lie by Kathy Reichs is a 2014 Bantam publication.

Dr. Brennan is called into Charlotte PD to work a cold case alongside a homicide detective who is a long way from home. The case re-opens the Anique Pomerleau investigation- a case that still haunts Brennan and Andrew Ryan. Forced to locate Ryan, who has gone AWOL after a personal tragedy, the former partners and lovers reunite to finally bring Anique Pomerleau to justice. The case takes a sudden and shocking turn along the way and could once more touch Brennan in a personal way…

I love this series, but lost track of it a few years back. Now, I’m playing catch up, hoping to get caught up with the series before the next installment is released. I had no trouble picking up the series again, the atmosphere and the cadence are familiar, but the deeper I immersed myself into the story the more I realized how much I had missed Brennan and Ryan working together.

This story was especially dark and creepy, with a load of heavy emotions between the characters. The twists and turns are perfectly timed, and the pace kept me on the edge of my seat all the way to the end.

Overall, a fine addition to the series! Looking forward to the next chapter!

It gets personal again.

Brennan is called in to look at a case of a child murder in Charlotte that looks a lot like another one that took place in Canada. The suspected murderer is familiar as well, a woman Brennan and Canadian partner Ryan pursued some years before and failed to catch.

Why Charlotte? Could it be that the murderer has it in for Brennan?

The case winds its way through several twists, both in the U.S. and Canada, and involves an effort by Brennan to bring Ryan back in from the cold, or wherever he has taken himself.

Again, a psychopath that has distinct plans, a kind of planner that probably does not exist in real life. It's absorbing enough, good escape reading. ( )

One of the better ones in her latest production. Definitely curious now what's going to happen in the next book. I can only say that the last few pages are a bit of a cliffhanger ;-) ( )

As always a great, quick read. Little gory but keeps your interest ( )

Anique Pomerleau. The monster. The only one who ever got away.

And she’s back, so the chase is one and this time Temperance is determined to get her. She would need the help of her lost love, Andrew Ryan. He had vanished, when his daughter died. Would he come back to help her? Could she even find him?

I love that she calls her cat Bird. Love those funny little bits with my murder and danger.

Missing girls are a trigger for me. I want to see the ‘hero’ catch the villain and I don’t care how they do and whether it’s dead or alive.

Tempe had come face to face with her before and lost. I don’t think she will this time. Kathy Reichs always spins a tale that engulfs me in the danger and fear for the characters. She confounds me, leading me down a dark path of questions and answers. She has never disappointed me.

I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of Bones Never Lie by Kathy Reichs.
