I'm kind of bummed that I'm all caught up on the series now, because it's seriously adorable and I want to read more. I think I liked this novella a bit more than the first one in the series, but that is probably because there was a bit more angst. ;) Don't get me wrong, there's still plenty of fluff and cuteness (which I kind of need to reset my angst-o-meter), but it's a bit darker.

Justin White is a bunny shifter who literally runs into Benji Holland (who made his debut in the first book, as Peter's best friend) while Benji is hunting down a rogue werewolf. Benji isn't completely sure if Justin (who is in rabbit form) is an actual bunny or a shifter, he takes him back with him to Chicago. Benji figures that he'll send Justin back to his warren, but Justin is determined that he'll never return. He's been suffering from physical, emotional, and sexual abuse from Wilbur and some of the other members of his warren. He's also been extremely isolated from the world around him in Minnesota, to the point that he really has no idea how to survive on his own.

There's a bit of mpreg for those who are fans of it. I'm not, but it doesn't play a huge role in the story, so I didn't really care either way. Surprise, Peter is expecting - which I could see a mile away at the end of the last book - and he tells Benji and Justin the news in the epilogue. Like I said, not much of a story point, which was fine by me.

I do feel like Benji and Justin fell into instalove. They only knew each other for a few weeks before mating (which, in bunny shifter world, is for life) and saying that they loved one another. However, there were also some mitigating factors that kind of rushed things - by mating with Justin, Benji was trying to protect him from Wilbur, as well, so I was kind of okay with it, I guess? Besides, they were really cute. ;)

Altogether, this was a worthy sequel to the first novella, and I will definitely read more in this series if/when it continues. ( )
