Fiction. Literature. HTML:The story of four American strangers who bond in Italy and change their lives over the course of an exceptional year, from the bestselling author of Under the Tuscan Sun.

Enjoyable to a point and then just a bit tedious ( )

Set in San Rocco, Italy, three American women lease a house and live one year of their lives. All have lost the men in their lives and they discover themselves anew though they’re older (65-70). Sometimes boring, sometimes understandably exciting because I am beyond those ages, and sometimes too descriptive and hard to follow, especially the first section. ( )

This book is so beautifully written, it may take you a while to read it. I found myself pausing to reread passages just to savor the beauty of the writing. Like many Frances Mayes works, this is set in Italy. It features a trio of older women who meet at an open house for "retirement" living, become friends, and decide to have an adventure together. It also features other expats who befriend them. It is simply a wonderful book. ( )

Loved the background of a small Tuscan town. Mayes sure can wax poetic describing Villa Assunta and San Rocco. You really want to be there. her characters are older women which is nice and refreshing and I love how they each are discovering themselves. The narrator is an American writer Kit and through her eyes we see these ladies. The only part I didn't really enjoy was the "Margaret" parts. Margaret is Kit's deceased friend who she plans to write a book about. I just don't care for this angle.
A good read and makes me want to go live in a Villa in Tuscany. ( )

Okay book. Loved her first book. All the rest have been disappointing. ( )
