Beatrice is at a police conference in a very posh resort hotel in Portugal. She is there to participate in the conference and also ‘keep her ears to the ground’ and try to gather intelligence about a possible corrupt official. Of course there is a murder and Beatrice is involved, working with old friends and colleagues Ana and Xavier. As in all the titles, Beatrice’s personal life overlaps with her professional life and Beatrice tries to find time to combine her conference responsibilities with her family and friends’ holiday in a nearby villa.
The writing is fast-paced and suspenseful; the dialogue excellent; the characters familiar and interesting. The travelogue ‘sense of place’ is fantastic. (When do I leave for Porto?) and the food and wine so delicious and tempting.
I sincerely hope there are more titles to follow in this series, as I have become quite addicted. (
