I didn't care if it was Science Fiction, Fantasy, classic literature, or what. Informing this to a co-worker, they highly suggested I read something from the Witcher series. I took him up on his offer and read this a few years back and the one that got me into to 'The Witcher' series. I had not seen the video game or even the show which was released by that time. Hooked I tell you! The translation of Sapkowski's writing was absolutely marvelous and I thoroughly enjoyed the characters, their storyline, the setting, and the "monsters", but what really solidified it for me was the dialog! So good, so effortless to read. This was one of those books that I lost track of time when I read it because it so immersed me within the tale. This edition was the audiobook and was just as effective of a medium as the print book. The reader, Peter Kenny, did an absolute fabulous job with the vocalizations of the men, women, children, beasts and any other character he was called upon to voice. Mr. Kenny will most definitely keep me listening to the audiobooks. Can't recommend this enough to anybody who loves a good story, This is not only a a good Fantasy story, but it is a very good work of writing period. I read this from curiosity, having seen bits of the video game and a part of one episode on TV. What intrigued me were the use of fairy tales, and the imaginative way they were retold. There were takes on Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, Snow White and more, only, in these stories, the Princesses were the evil of the tale. The writing felt a bit clunky to me, but that could also be a result of the translation. There was more fighting and less plot movement and character development in the stories than I prefer, but towards the end of the book, things were moving along. Occasionally there were some thoughtful insights into why people behave the way they do. I'm not sure I loved it enough to buy more in this series, but maybe. sem críticas | adicionar uma crítica
