The tonal shift worked surprisingly well, but Odin's demise was underplayed, and the film is plagued with yet another underdeveloped villain. This could have been one of the MCU's greatest films had they made it about _either_ Odin/Hela _or_ Planet Hulk, but doing both in the same film means nothing's properly explored. They also throw away the great set up "The Dark World" did for a much more sinister installment with Loki posing as Odin for a single (if admittedly hilarious) gag scene. But those are all what-ifs. The film as it stands is quite good and very entertaining, with great action, many strong character moments and an amazing use of Jeff Goldblum. And the humour goes a long way towards making up for the shortcomings of the plot and the underdeveloped Hela. I will say this, though: The Fenris wolf was a _huge_ disappointment. ( )

Muddled, but occasionally funny. Cate Blanchet, Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston are fun to watch. But this movie seems to have been taken over by a "Guardians of the Galaxy" sensibility. ( )

I really enjoyed this film - this is what the first Marvel films were like. Fun. The fights didn't go on too long most of the time. The jokes were funny and lots of eye candy. My only criticism would be is that having a deus ex machina to brink Loki back into the franchise they didn't really use him that much. But for me, one of the best recent Marvel films they've made. ( )

Thor and Loki go to visit Odin who is mourning his lost wife, only for Odin to die and them to discover that this releases Hela, Odin's first born (in this universe). She declares that she is now in charge and starts slaughtering people.. When Thor tries to defeat her he ends up in a planet of rubbish and he's captured as a gladiator by a Valkyrie.

He has to fight to get back and one of his opponents is Hulk. It's complex and messy and they have to deal with Hela before she destroys all that is good about Vahalla.

Loved it. Will have to watch it again a few times. ( )
