Jessa Gibson may be new in the little town of Granite, Texas, but in no time at all her gourmet food truck business is booming. Soon she'll have enough money to open the restaurant of her dreams. But first, she'll have to appease the hot local health inspector, no matter how strange his "violations" sound to her. No pink plastic gloves? Really? Max Hager isn't exactly who he says he is. Pretending to be a health inspector is a (mostly) innocent mistake. A mistake made way worse by Max's immediate, electrifying attraction to the curvy, sexy, redheaded chef. Throw in a whole lot of lust and things in Jessa's little kitchen are about to really start heating up. But can Max find a way to come clean with Jessa before his little deception turns into a recipe for disaster?… (mais)

I had some issues with this book. This was really more of a 2.5-star read but since I am feeling generous, I am rounding up. I have had a review copy of this book for quite a while but hadn't had the chance to read it so I decided to pick up the audiobook and give it a try. I thought that the narrator did a great job but I just couldn't ever get completely behind this story.

Jessa was great. She was confident and an all-around nice girl. She worked hard and wanted to play by the rules. She wasn't afraid to take risks or go for what she wants. And then there is Max. Max ruined this story for me. He lies when he meets Jessa and doesn't stop lying for the whole book. Jessa deserved better than that.

I did enjoy seeing Jessa connect with the people in town. I also thought that Max and Jessa had great chemistry and there was some potential for their relationship. My problem is the Max waits way too long to come clean and his lies go on way too long. He even takes steps to keep the deceit going after he has started to get involved with her. There were just a lot of lines crossed in this story. Every time Max had an opportunity to come clean with Jessa and didn't take it, I lost some respect for his character. By the end of the book, I had no respect left. Jessa deserved better.

I thought that Violet Strong did a great job with the narration. Her narration was one of the highlights of the book. She did a great job with the character voices and had a great reading voice. I had no problem listening to her narration for hours at a time. I wouldn't hesitate to listen to more of her narration work.

I think that there are some readers that will enjoy this one more than I did. I have a hard time with romances where one character is deceiving the other so this one didn't work for me. I haven't quite given up on this author and would love to try more of her work in the future.

I received a digital review copy of this book from Forever (Grand Central Publishing) via NetGalley and purchased a copy of the audiobook. ( )

I have nothing but love for Alison Bliss and her Perfect Fit series. She empowers women with a strength of character that is light hearted and in no way mean spirited. She proves that you don't have be a size 0 to get the most out of life. This time around, she gives the tale a surprising twist in Max Hager. He's funny, sexy, an all around stand up guy with hidden insecurities that haunt him everyday. Jessa is a go getter. She doesn't wait for life to happen to her. She makes it happen for herself. Max could learn a few things from her. More to Love is a pleasurable, humorous and heartwarming look at how the plus size live. It inspires and for that I admire her and am a fan for life. ( )

More to Love by Alison Bliss
Book #3: A Perfect Fit Series
Source: Netgalley
My Rating: 4/5 stars

I was quite disappointed with the second book in the A Perfect Fit series and was hoping the third book would right the ship so to speak. It certainly did right itself and I found myself enjoying this installment of the series just as much as I did the first, Size Matters.

In the wake of her mother’s death, Jessa Gibson was absolutely lost. In fact, until the resolution of her mother’s estate, Jessa had no idea what she would do with the rest of her life. As it turns out, Jessa’s love of cooking, her mother’s fond memories, and a hefty life insurance payment answered the question for her. Food truck in Granite, Texas! You totally saw that coming, right? 😊

Within a few short weeks of setting up her food truck and word of mouth, Jessa is overwhelmed with business. Her food is far superior to the average food truck, her overhead is low and so are her prices which keeps the residents of Granite coming back for more every day. Jessa absolutely adores her customers and with business booming, Jessa is hoping to put down roots in Granite. Her ultimate dream is to transfer her fine food truck foods to a brick and mortar location where she can permanently serve the people of her adopted home town.

Max Hager has spent his adult life in pursuit of a single goal, never again be the fat kid in the room. With dogged determination and an iron will power, Max exercises religiously and controls what goes into his body down to the most minute of morsels. Only one person in Granite knows his secret, the owner of the local Empty Plate Café. Every day, Max goes to the Empty Plate and orders the “special,” a low calorie, low carb, low everything meal made just for Max. Unfortunately, the arrival of Jessa’s food truck has severely and negatively impacted the Empty Plate which absolutely freaks out Max and causes him to hatch a half-baked plan intended to save his friend’s restaurant and secure his own culinary future.

In the moment of panic that hatched the half-bake plan, Max decides to impersonate the local health inspector and make Jessa’s life so miserable she has no choice but to pack up her interloping food truck and leave town. In the moment, the plan seemed solid and doable, but meeting Jessa made everything go sideways and some things, or body parts take notice. Jessa is fiery, intelligent, quick witted, funny, and sweet. She’s a good girl and just as soon as Max launches his evil get her out of town plan, he feels completely wretched. What’s more, health inspectors have to follow-up on their initial inspections which means coming clean isn’t going to be easy.

In the coming days, Max returns to the food truck more than is strictly necessary. Under the guise of the health inspector he has a valid “reason” for being there, but in his heart of hearts, he knows he keeps returning because of Jessa. Jessa fascinates Max and his attraction to her can’t be denied though he tries awfully hard to do so. Jessa is just as attracted to Max yet she can’t seem to figure him out. Until the moment he gives in to his attraction, Max runs hot and cold and sends all kinds of mixed signals. When he finally gives, Max is all kinds of hot and holy hell does he take talking dirty to a whole new level. Her relationship with Max is another reason to stay in Granite, and perhaps the most exciting of reasons. What she doesn’t know is going to break her heart and cause to her to feel just as lost as she did when her mother died.

The Bottom Line: More to Love got this series back on track for me and though I found Max to be somewhat selfish in the beginning, he redeemed himself in the end. Max has a great deal of maturing to do and he learns that lesson the hard way throughout this read. His tricking of Jessa is immature and selfish, and when he loses her, he fully appreciates how pathetic and wrong his behavior has been. Jessa also teaches Max about trust, compassion, and understanding and as their relationship develops, she also learns a few lessons. What’s more, Jessa and Max are surrounded by the characters from the two previous books which deepens and enriches the story overall. All of the original characters are now coupled up and entangled in their respective HEAs so it may be this series has come to end. If that is indeed the case, then Jessa and Max a strong ending to a decent trilogy. ( )
