This was a novel about the Civil War in the United States and the intrigues that these particular characters follow. While it was still entertaining, no doubt, I didn't feel as connected with the novel as with Verne's other tales. The characters seemed a little forced as times and the plot wavered at a few points. For these reasons, I give it its ranking. 3 stars. Jules Verne was leaving in the XIX century at an age of industrial revolution; the book starts with the passengers of a steamer on the Johns river in Florida. Half of them abolitionists. Very good understanding of all maritime operations of the U.S. Civil war and outstanding descriptions of Florida, USA ecological in their essence. sem críticas | adicionar uma crítica

Texas is decidedly an ugly customer. He does not really care who wins in the American Civil War, but hearing the man he hates is a Northerner, poses as a Southerner and does his best to ruin the other man. The secret of his dexterity in getting out of tight corners is not revealed until almost the end. The story is full of thrills. Não foram encontradas descrições de bibliotecas. |
