I liked this book for a few reasons. One reason I liked this book is because of the rhythm of the words. I find it easy to read and fall into a rhythm when books read. Another thing I liked about this book is that it had a purpose and it was clear through out the entire story. The book the entire time is talking about how people don't bite people because biting is for food. This book also has repetition which is beneficial and puts emphasis on what the reader should take away from the story. The message of this story is that biting people isn't nice and people don't bite their friends. ( )

A humorous rhyming book that emphasizes that people don't bite people, biting is for food! Good read-aloud for young preschoolers.

Delightful for biters and non-biters alike, this brightly illustrated book reminds readers with a sing-song rhythm that "People don't bite people...Biting is for food!" Classic rounded cartoonish characters are nearly luminescent, surrounded by a pale glow on a colorful background. The ending presents one exception to the rule: "People don't bite people! It really isn't right. But if their head is gingerbread...go on and take a bite!"

A sing-song narrative from author Lisa Wheeler is paired with adorable cartoon-style illustrations from artist Molly Idle in People Don't Bite People, an entertaining picture-book guide to when (and when not!) to use your teeth. The rhyming text gives a number of examples of when one should refrain from biting, emphasizing through the refrain that teeth should be used on food.

With its rhyming text - "People don't bite people. / It's nasty and it's rude! / A friend will never bite a friend. / Biting is for food!" - and bright illustrations, People Don't Bit People would make an excellent read-aloud selection at story-time. It also offers a fun way of exploring the idea of using words, rather than teeth, in times of conflict and stress, with the younger picture-book set. Recommended to anyone who enjoys picture-books in rhyme, as well as to those searching for children's books which address good manners, and not using one's teeth (or fists, by extension) to resolve conflicts. A winning combination from author Lisa Wheeler and illustrator Molly Idle. Told in lively and funny rhyme, the book gives a simple message: people bit a lot of things, animals bite, but people don't bite people. Kids and families will enjoy this rollicking book with adorable illustrations. ( )
