From #1 New York Times bestselling author Brandon Sanderson, the Mistborn series is a heist story of political intrigue and magical, martial-arts action.
The impossible has been accomplished. The Lord Ruler â?? the man who claimed to be god incarnate and brutally ruled the world for a thousand years â?? has been vanquished. But Kelsier, the hero who masterminded that triumph, is dead too, and now the awesome task of building a new world has been left to his young protégé, Vin, the former street urchin who is now the most powerful Mistborn in the land, and to the idealistic young nobleman she loves.
As Kelsier's protégé and slayer of the Lord Ruler she is now venerated by a budding new religion, a distinction that makes her intensely uncomfortable. Even more worrying, the mists have begun behaving strangely since the Lord Ruler died, and seem to harbor a strange vaporous entity that haunts her.
Stopping assassins may keep Vin's Mistborn skills sharp, but it's the least of her problems. Luthadel, the largest city of the former empire, doesn't run itself, and Vin and the other members of Kelsier's crew, who lead the revolution, must learn a whole new set of practical and political skills to help. It certainly won't get easier with three armies â?? one of them composed of ferocious giants â?? now vying to conquer the city, and no sign of the Lord Ruler's hidden cache of atium, the rarest and most powerful allomantic metal.
As the siege of Luthadel tightens, an ancient legend seems to offer a glimmer of hope. But even if it really exists, no one knows where to find the Well of Ascension or what manner of power it bestows.

At the beginning, more political less action but.......
Very good second book!! ( )

I finished the Final Empire in about 3 weeks, at a steady pace and not forcing myself to. I highly enjoyed it and I thought it was a great book so I was excited when I bought The Well of Ascension but that's sort of where the excitement ended.
WOA isn't bad, but it isn't nearly half as good as the first. I find it quite boring actually, talking is an integral part of books but it shouldn't be the ONLY part of a book and WOA is filled with pages and pages of boring, philosophical dialogue that could have been cut down to half it's size. There is little action and intrigue like the first book, it's just a big waiting game of talking. Since the first book took my 3 weeks, I have been on this one for about 6 weeks and am maybe 60% done it because it doesn't pull me in like the first and frankly I'm only finishing it because I'm so far into it and unless the last 40% gets remarkably better, it's sad to say I doubt I will read the last. This book was absolutely amazing! I never wanted to set it down. The ending was crazy and now I really want to read the next book. Everyone must read the Mistborn books. 10/10 - October 15, 2023 ( )

The characters in this book make me so angry. The Battle of Luthadel and onward are the only parts I enjoy. Four years after reading this book the first time did improve my opinion of it a little but not by much. Last time I was so angry that I never started the third book. Now, I'll finally read The Hero of Ages. ( )

Vin's struggles with love and power inject the human element into Sanderson's engaging epic.
