This informational picture book was as brilliant as the title insinuates. You can tell that the author really finds what she is writing about to be very important. The books gives true facts to share the importance of protecting the environment, more specifically the coral reefs of the world. You can use this story to teach young children to appreciate the world around them and to take care of wildlife. The facts in this book were also very unique. There were many moments where I personally gained knowledge that I did not previously have. I also like the fact that a girl and her father are the main characters because it made me think about my relationship with my own father. It gave a sense of protecting the environment all together. These illustrations in this book were also about as beautiful as the real world! ( )

Great book about regrowing the coral reef. Informational and educational and engaging. I would definitely love to read this to my students in the hopes that they learn something of importance from this book. ( )

To begin, I love nonfiction stories because the fact that it is true makes it that much better! Ken Nedimyer was passionate about aquatic life since he was young. Him and his daughter dedicated their time to plant new coral reef next to dead coral reef in order to revive them. He then creates a foundation to further his involvement in aquatic life. I did not know who Ken Nedimyer was, but now I always remember him. Such an insightful and fun book. The illustrations were beautiful. ( )

Ken Nedimyer was passionate about the ocean and aquatic life from a young age. One day, he notices the coral reefs in his favorite diving spot are dying and decides he must do something to fix it. With the help of his daughter, Ken discovers that planting new coral in the dead coral reef is able to revive the dead reef. Ken goes on to create the Coral Restoration Foundation and dedicates his life to saving coral reefs.
I thought this book had beautiful illustrations and taught a lesson about a lesser known man. I think it is especially important in our current climate that we teach children about the environment and what we can do to help it. ( )

I love true stories with beautiful illustrations about coral reefs. I know the students will capture the meaning of the story quickly because it's simple and amazing to read. The students will understand and learn so much about coral reefs. This story is about a young girl and her father Ken. The girl helps her father with their restoration of coral reefs. Ken loved the ocean and scuba diving along the reefs when he was a child. When Ken grew up, he learned that the things that he loves fade away, maybe it's gone forever. Ken worked to restore the coral reef habitats. Ken received support from others and he continues to work in marine conservation and restoration. He even starts a group, it's called the Coral Restoration Foundation, they regrow coral reefs and plant it in new places. Until this day, they continue to regrow coral reefs. ( )
