As it states in the beginning of the book "Cherokee people say Ostaliheliga to express gratitude. It is a reminder to celebrate our blessings and reflect on struggles - daily, throughout the year and across the seasons." Starting in the fall, which is the beginning of the Cherokee new year, the book continues through the seasons, telling about ceremonies, traditions, celebrations and cultural practices in which the people are grateful. Cherokee words are integrated into the text. In addition, the Cherokee words, pronunciation and words written in the Cherokee Syllabary are at the bottom of the pages. The additional author's note and Cherokee Syllabary make this a wonderful informative book to share with students during Native American Heritage month and for many other reasons. It's full of intriguing information and beautiful engaging illustrations. sem críticas | adicionar uma crítica

This book is great for talking about with students what lives might look like outside of their own traditional understandings. What does it look like to celebrate another tradition in a different culture? ( )
