Business. Self-Improvement. Nonfiction. Economics. HTML:The long-awaited first book by the founder of the enormously popular Bullet Journal® organizational system.
For years Ryder Carroll tried countless organizing systems, online and off, but none of them fit the way his mind worked. Out of sheer necessity, he developed a method called the Bullet Journal that helped him become consistently focused and effective. When he started sharing his system with friends who faced similar challenges, it went viral. Just a few years later, to his astonishment, Bullet Journaling is a global movement.
The Bullet Journal Method is about much more than organizing your notes and to-do lists. It's about what Carroll calls "intentional living": weeding out distractions and focusing your time and energy in pursuit of what's truly meaningful, in both your work and your personal life. It's about spending more time with what you care about, by working on fewer things. His new book shows you how to...
  *  Track the past: Using nothing more than a pen and paper, create a clear and comprehensive record of your thoughts.
  *  Order the present: Find daily calm by tackling your to-do list in a more mindful, systematic, and productive way.
  *  Design the future: Transform your vague curiosities into meaningful goals, and then break those goals into manageable action steps that lead to big change.
Carroll wrote this book for frustrated list-makers, overwhelmed multitaskers, and creatives who need some structure. Whether you've used a Bullet Journal for years or have never seen one before, The Bullet Journal Method will help you go from passenger to pilot of your own life.

Instructional & informative. ( )

This would be a fantastic book for someone just starting out with a Bullet Journal. I've been neck deep in my "BuJo" for several years so there wasn't that much here for me. Still, I recommend it. ( )

I’m about to start my fourth year on bullet journaling, and the system is great. I was hoping for a bit more expansion into the ways people have been using their journals, but unfortunately most of the useful information is stuff that you could already acquire off the four-minute intro vid on the bulletjournal.com website.

As other people have mentioned, the third section, Practice, is a little less practical and a little more self-help. It feels out of place in a book that pushes utility so much.

Still warrants at least three stars due to being the only journaling/scheduling/note taking system I’ve ever stuck with, and I don’t feel one bit sad about paying for the book considering that the method itself is essentially free on the web. It’s about time I chipped in a few bucks for something that basically changed my life. ( )

Overall the Bullet Journal (BuJo) method is a comprehensive productivity system that is partly an organizer (with space for traditional calendar planning), a GTD tool (managing lists, projects and tasks) and a tool for actual journaling, triggering introspection and self-awareness. Its great added value is that since it is pen & paper based, the friction of using physical devices forces the users to focus on what really matters and avoid bloated and complex systems. However it will not turn me away from digital apps for obvious efficiency reasons, I think it can also be considered as a wisdom benchmark for someone building his own system in the digital world, drawing lessons from the method’s constraints of having to focus on simplicity.

Strong points
1. Comprehensive productivity system, described with practical details
2. A bridge between modern world productivity and the ancient practice of journaling
3. A very practical and non-intimidating way to get introduced to journaling

Weak points

1. The actual journaling practice could have be detailed with more depth
2. More examples from users’ templates and usages would have been welcome
3. A history of journaling with examples of famous figures practicing it is missing ( )

The "bullet journal method" (the practice) is a series of useful albeit lifehacky techniques: a nice notebook in a useful form factor, with numbered pages to facilitate an index; the consistent use of short symbols; reviewing portions on a twice-daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly basis. The "Bullet Journal Method" (the book) is yet another rehash of Mindfulness for First World Problems. In no way objectionable in itself, but not unique or particularly compelling.
