I loved the story, I really liked the focus on science. I enjoyed the old school art mixed with a very modern progressive story. ( ) A readable if largely tension-free arc about Shuri's search for her brother, T'Challa, who is lost in space. The story is accessible to someone like me who only knows Shuri and Black Panther through the MCU, although there were some things I just had to roll with (Shuri died at some point? But then got better? And is now several birds? Comics!). I liked the emphasis on not just Wakanda, but several other countries in Africa, as their own distinct places. Given that, though, I was a bit thrown to find that the Wakandans had apparently given a name in Afrikaans to a landmark baobab tree in their country. If they for some reason didn't have a name for it in a Wakandan language and did feel the need to reference a tree in Namibia, why not use its name in !Kung rather than the language of brutal colonial oppressors? It's a small and fairly throwaway moment but it sat so oddly with the rest of the book that it really threw me. The covers were stunning, but the interior art is a bit rough-and-ready and sometimes it's hard to differentiate characters. Overall, I'm enjoying Okorafor's comic books, but this is her least successful for me so far. With all the running around, slam-bang adventure, and exposition-heavy introduction of side characters, I just felt Shuri's personality fell through the cracks. Nothing in here really got me to root for her as the star of the book. Maybe next volume... Collects Shuri #1-5 I love Shuri! It's not often that a young character also gets to be wise. But her youth still shows up -- like in her stubborn refusal (at first) to be the Black Panther in T'Challa's absence. Plus, she saves the world - with a little brainstorming backup from Iron Man (who I do not like. At all.) to run the math - and eventually she takes up the role of Black Panther. I'm not a big graphic novel reader, so that's the only reason this is 4 stars instead of 5. sem críticas | adicionar uma crítica

The world fell in love with her in the movie. Now, the Black Panther's techno-genius sister launches her own adventures - written by best-selling Afrofuturist author Nnedi Okorafor and drawn by Eisner-nominated artist Leonardo Romero! The Black Panther has disappeared, lost on a mission in space. And in his absence, everyone's looking at the next in line for the throne. But Shuri is happiest in a lab, surrounded by gadgets of her own creation. She'd rather be testing gauntlets than throwing them. But a nation without a leader is a vulnerable one - and Shuri may have to choose between Wakanda's welfare and her own. Não foram encontradas descrições de bibliotecas. |
