In Teen Titans: Raven, writer Kami Garcia and artist Gabriel Picolo re-imagine the titular member of the Titans in a modern setting, imagining her as a girl without a past due to a traumatic car accident. Raven’s adoptive mother’s sister takes her in, with new step-sister Max helping her find her way in a New Orleans high school. As she adjusts to her new life, her adoptive aunt searches for the meaning of Raven’s seemingly magical abilities. Meanwhile, a mysterious stranger in an eye patch – Slade – observes her from a distance. The character originally appeared in George Pérez and Marv Wolfman’s Teen Titans comics and has made the leap to other media through Tara Strong’s vocal performance in Cartoon Network’s 2003-2006 series, Teen Titans, and in the DC Universe series Titans, portrayed by Teagan Croft. Garcia and Picolo’s reimagining honors those previous iterations of the character while crafting something of their own that will entertain new and familiar readers alike. Garcia finds the perfect amount of pathos that modern readers will expect while Picolo’s art beautifully captures the essence of each character with fantastic likenesses and expressive faces. The use of color is also perfect for the story and colorist David Calderon deserves notice for his use of vivid colors, greyscale, and splashes to capture both the action and emotion of each panel. Garcia and Picolo’s Raven is a beautiful comic that brings something new to the character for all readers. This was a well written and illustrated book about Raven, who I love so much! It is a ya retelling which could have been a lot worse. It starts off meh but it gets better. However, aspects of the book didn't seem to excite me and I feel like some scenes were written to basically manipulate people into getting excited. Still, the illustrations were top-notch, colourful and the illustrator deserves a gold medal!. sem críticas | adicionar uma crítica

7/10, this is the first book in a series of books about the Teen Titans, and I enjoyed this one, I actually read the second book a while ago, and I prefer the first book over the second one. I really enjoyed reading Raven as a character, and the struggles she had, especially with being an outcast, losing her parents, and the mysterious voice, which built up to the big reveal in the end. I liked all the scenes with Raven, it really showed how well written she is. The story has just the right amount of emotion, and action. The ending was very action packed, it was just a massive battle between the villain, who was revealed at the end of the book, and Raven and a bunch of other spirit characters, I enjoyed that part. If you like a book with action and emotion, this is the book for you. (
