This surprised me. It wasn‘t perfect, but I enjoyed the concept. The twist was unexpected but mostly made sense, and the subtle nods to real-life magicians were clever. I‘ve never seen a broken wand ceremony depicted in something I‘ve read, so that was cool as well. ( )

I borrowed this comics collection from the public library, having heard nothing of it previously. Apparently, the second volume has appeared in individual floppies, and the once-cancelled (during pandemic gyrations) Netflix series is back in active development. It's ultra-violent and not especially clever about supernatural magic or stage magic, both of which are central to the story. Thaumaturgy is hereditary, and the "Order" is a family concern.

I liked Olivier Coipel's art very much. His compositions are dynamic, and the characters are expressive. The art benefits from the masterful colors by Dave Stewart, of course.

The book was just barely good enough that I'll read Volume Two if I can borrow it from the library, and I'll give the tv series a shot if it ever manifests.

A história é divertida, tem bons momentos e uma mitologia própria muito interessante. Não vou me aprofundar por conta de spoilers. Tem alguns problemas que não comprometem, mas o que incomoda um pouco é a velocidade para contar a história. Talvez uma cadência um pouco maior nessa temática... Não sei se é frescura minha por ter crescido lendo Sandman, Hellblazer e Livros de Magia, mas fica a observação. Um pouco menos "videoclipe" e mais "documentário" me agradaria mais.
Ponto alto a arte absolutamente linda de Olivier Coipel. A edição brasileira em capa dura por 39 pilas na Amazon é um baita atrativo. Recomendo. ( )

An order of wizards which protects the Earth from badness has its members assassinated one by one. I found the story and characters boring and hard to empathise with, though the artwork was OK. There was a lot of exploding people with magic wands. ( )
