Following a successful but exhausting book tour, Joe Biden is looking forward to returning home. However, before he does, he's got one last stop to make- Chicago, where the Obama Foundation is holding its first annual global economics forum. Barack Obama has invited Joe to meet a wealthy left-leaning philanthropist, whose deep pockets Joe will need if he decides to run for president. Joe isn't even sure if wants to run...but he's not going to pass up a rare chance to reconnect with his one-time governing mate. Joe and Obama barely have time to catch up before another mystery lands in their laps- Obama's prized Blackberry is stolen. When the suspect turns up comatose from a gunshot wound, local police are content with writing it off as just another gangland shooting. But Joe and Obama smell a rat. In a race to find the shooter, Joe and Obama butt heads with their former compadre, Mayor Rahm Emanuel; follow a trail of clues through Chicago's South Side; go undercover inside a Prohibition-era speakeasy; and scale the Tribune Tower in a Die Hard-worthy final set-piece. Robert Frost said "the woods are dreary, dark, and deep." So are the waters of Lake Michigan...and if Joe and Obama aren't careful, that's where they could wind up spending their retirement.… (mais)

That this book, released in July 2019, six months before Joe Biden began his No Malarkey presidential campaign tour, opens with "What a bunch of malarkey" indicates some kind of very eerie witchcraft/sorcery/actual Joe Biden pseudonym shenanigans. ( )

Joe Biden is on a stopover in Chicago to meet up with his old friend Barack and meet Caruso, an activist rapper who could give a boost to Biden’s potential run for president.

Biden meets Shaun Denton, a teenage member of Michelle Obama’s “Rising Stars,” when he meets up with Obama. When Obama’s Blackberry goes missing, Denton becomes a suspect and then is later found, on the South side of Chicago, shot and barely alive. The police write it off as a gang shooting, but Biden and Obama think else wise. Denton had told Biden how Rising Stars had helped him turn his life around for the good in a serious way, and Biden believed him.

Biden and Obama combine forces, to find the shooter, recover the missing Blackberry and determine who is and who isn’t on the level in the corrupt city of Chicago. Keep in mind Chicago is in the middle of celebrating St. Patrick’s Day; a major event for all of Chicago.

It may seem a bit off to imagine Biden and Obama as detective, but that is part of the fun of the read. Not all goes according to plan as the story moves along. There are some laughable scenes and situations. Once again Steve, Obama’s bodyguard, is along to protect Obama and have some unusual experiences of his own.

I’m hoping there may be a third book in the future. If not, the two books have been a blast to read. ( )

With a setting in The Windy City, complete with Rahm and rampant corruption,
intrepid detectives Biden and Obama slide into action to pursue the shooter of a young colleague.

A lot of Chicago lore and locations, notably Valois Restaurant in Hyde Park, enliven the script
and create more entertainment than the first book.

Political asides, sarcasm, and humor create HOPE for a 3rd volume featuring the demise of the current administration. ( )

Just the pick me up I needed. All the Obama/Biden bromance, and mystery that I've come to expect from this series. I'm already hoping for a third book!

Joe and Barack are at it again. This time Joe travels to Chicago to attend Barack's economic conference and meet a local activist whose endorsement could help Joe's fledgling Presidential campaign.

But then Barack's Blackberry goes missing and Joe goes to the South side of Chicago in pursuit of the thief, only to find him shot. The police want to chalk it up to gang activity, but Joe and Barack smell a rat. The result is an hilarious chase all around Chicagoland that eventually uncovers a complicated political conspiracy. This one is just pure fun' ( )
