When a woman falls in love, though, does she really lose all common sense, ignore all the red flags that indicate something is not right, and exhibit such naivete that you just want to scream "wake up!" at her? Alice's wild mood swings were a little hard to swallow, and the ending was not as clear-cut as it should have been. I'm kind of lukewarm on this one. Well that was quite a trip. This book brings all kinds of different questions about who you know and what you know about them. Is there anybody you ever really can trust? And how do you know for sure you can trust that person? Although a common theme with most suspense type books, the difference here is that it’s so “in your face unexpectedly” you don’t have time to process the lies and manipulations you’ve just witnessed! All the clues are there and they’re all woven nicely together for an absolute crazy ending. The First Mistake by Sandie Jones was a highly anticipated book for me. I love her writing style and she is skilled at writing captivating and engaging domestic thrillers. I was drawn into this story but was left with a lot of unanswered questions and an ending that didn't entirely work for me because it was all wrapped up so quickly. I am one who likes a little more substance and depth and I understand that with this type of book you don't always get that, but this just left me wanting more. The First Mistake was very engaging but I felt like I needed more of the backstory to feel connected to Alice, Beth, and Nathan. I found myself feeling quite frustrated with the characters not being able to react reasonably when time and time again there were major issues that were either being ignored or not taken seriously... All in all, this was a fast-paced book that definitely is entertaining, I just don't think it was the perfect fit for me. Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's press for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Check out my full review here: https://www.howdidthatbookend.com/first-mistake-sandie-jones/ I loved Sandie Jones’s debut novel The Other Woman, so I had very high expectations for her sophomore novel. Once again, she did not disappoint! I thought The First Mistake was even better. Once again, this book was delightfully fast-paced, the kind you stay up way too late to finish. The characters were relatable and believable, but not much to write home about. Sandie Jones does a masterful job of keeping the reader on their toes in The First Mistake. I swear I got mental whiplash from the amount of back and forth who’s-the-bad-guy. And I mean that in the best way possible! Sandie Jones is officially a master of the twist. I love it when I am able to find amazing thrillers outside of my trusty auto-buy authors. I will certainly be reading The Half Sister soon, and hopefully will be able to add Sandie Jones to my auto-buy list! sem críticas | adicionar uma crítica
