This is both informative and entertaining. It gives a real sense of present day Turkey and acts as a great introductory history to its convoluted past. ( )

This is a great book to read if you have been to Turkey or plan to go there. Mary Settle has a way of making you see the places she is describing. She includes just enough history to educate without being boring. I highly recommend this book. ( )

I really enjoyed this account of central and eastern Turkey -- mixes history and the present with great sensitivity.
