Pearl, a life-long friend of Myrtle's stops by to ask her to edit her book. She has written her memoirs, including her family's secrets and needs Myrtle's help.

Myrtle leaves the print manuscript on her coffee table while she and Miles go to the diner for lunch. On their return home, someone has broken into Myrtle's house and stolen the manuscript.
