This one is the sequel to one of my favorite series thus far this year, Not Dead Yet and the first book in the series by the same title. I couldn't wait to see if Wes Cooper and Hudson Rojas could possibly live up to all the angst, action, surprises, and romance that this author delivered as she introduced this unique and fabulous Urban Fantasy world. The answer to that question is "oh yes, it certainly does!" If anything, this book elevated my love for this series another few notches. The events that occurred at the end of book #1 have had some profound aftereffects on Wes which, in turn, were the catalyst for every single thing that happens in this story. So, it is almost imperative that book #1 be read before this one. You know what the old saying is..."anything that can go wrong will go wrong"?? Well, our Wes is at the middle of it all. The author does an outstanding job of coming up with surprises and creative ways to make this world and its supernatural elements feel fresh and exciting, while keeping us on our proverbial toes throughout it all. The truth will always win out, and when it did, it was just as impactful as Wes feared it would be. If it was possible, it upped the angst factor that was already present in the story from the start by about 150%. At the heart of Wes and Hud’s relationship is their past. How they ended decades before, and the lack of any sort of real trust to speak of between them at this stage. This is their second time around and they are still a "work-in-progress". Events in this book bring them closer together in yet another beautifully done romantic turn. You can't help but love them both...each as individuals and together as a couple. I'm anxious to see what form Wes’s magic will take and the effects, if any, it will continue to have on everyone, especially their friends, Hud and Evan. Overall... it's a creative and engaging task of storytelling on Jenn Burke's part. She has helped the characters to have quickly earned a place in my long list of "must read favorites". This is paranormal fiction, with heartwarming moments and beautiful romantic turns at its best. ( ) I was so impressed with #1 that I ordered this one immediately. And I am so impressed with this one that I've already prerodered #3. Burke's worldbuilding is intrinsic to the characters and plot, we're learning it as the characters do, and I absolutely love that. Plus, the romance is between two flawed men who have been dealt some wicked left hooks by life. This is one of the best fantasy-paranormal romances I've read and I recommend it without reservation. Very enjoyable second book of a trilogy about a quasi-ghost named Wesley, brought back by a witch 101 years ago after her brother (Wesley's love) murders Wesley. This is something you really need to read after the first book. I love Wesley, Hudson and their whole found family. The dynamics between them are so sweet. Wesley is certainly the god of bad decisions, but he's always trying to make the right ones. I'm looking forward the the third, and final, book of this series. sem críticas | adicionar uma crítica
