This book is a simply well done explanation of what a refugee is and gives some personal little stories at the end. I think this would be great for K-4th grade classrooms. This book can just be on hand in the classroom for students who are curious or when talking about history and immigration patterns this could be a great book to have out to share. A refugee is another human being, like everyone else. The only difference is that the place they used to call home is no longer suitable for them. It could have been because their country is at war or they are ill-treated. If they had a choice, they would never seek a new home. They would love to stay with their friends and family and live peacefully. But that choice is not available to them, so what happens to them? Where do they go? We picked this book for its theme. The book explains, in simple terms, who is a refugee, why someone becomes one, where they go, and what they expect? The illustrations are simple yet powerfully capture the essence of this delicate subject. ‘Refugee kids speak’, and ‘Famous refugees’ is a perfect end to the book. What Is a Refugee? by Elise Gravel is an easy-to-grasp book for young children to understand the idea of refugees and help them empathize with their fellow human beings. This picture book explains what a refugee is and who they are. This book highlights why someone may have to be a refugee and the dangers that they may be facing. This book is pro immigration and is an important book to read and discuss to young children. This would be a great discussion based book for kids learning about wars and helping those that need help. sem críticas | adicionar uma crítica
"An accessible picture book that oh-so-simply and graphically introduces the term 'refugee' to curious young children to help them better understand the world in which they live. Who are refugees? Why are they called that word? Why do they need to leave their country? Why are they sometimes not welcome in their new country? In this relevant picture book for the youngest children, author-illustrator Elise Gravel explores what it means to be a refugee in bold, graphic illustrations and spare text. This is the perfect tool to introduce an important and timely topic."--Amazon.com Não foram encontradas descrições de bibliotecas. |
