You see a Lucy Parker book, you read :) ( ) While I enjoyed this book, and the writing, and the characters, I was thoroughly disappointed in the pacing and plot, which are two things I've struggled with in Parker's books before. It seems the characters went from conflict, based solely on the prior book really, to conversation and a bunch of mishaps that just didn't feel organic or convincing. The animosity-conflict-conversation-and saboteur plot were just too much taken together. Fortunately, underpinning this were likable cast and characters, sparkling dialogue and swoony moments. Luckily, this romance was super enjoyable when the two main characters interacted. And this is where I have the disclaimer that historically (now anyway) Parker bats about 45% for me. (Pretty Face gives a little extra credit for a crazy lovable heroine) She's so talented, I'll keep reading. I'll also give the disclaimer I felt a touch impatient and probably went into this with exceedingly high expectations. There was so much good, and it was torpedoed by a weak plot that didn't actually develop tension and manipulative situations that were just extra BR w/ Gaufre and Joanna. An utter top-to-tail flipping delight. This was exactly the friend-to-lovers story I needed. No one is too perfect but everyone is really great, the things that throw Nick and Sabrina together are fun, there is a lot of time spent of friends and family which I always love (rather than focusing entirely on the central couple.) The book is sexy without being at all porny (I like porny too, just not always) and romantic without being mushy and gross. Sabrina's joy when Nick offers to pop to the shop for tampons without a complaint was maybe my favorite moment. That would have done it for me as well! This is my second Lucy Parker, and I am an official fangirl now. I have been reading the books out of order btw, and it has worked out just fine. I felt this book developed more naturally than what you typically see for the enemies-to-lovers trope. They are forced to work together toward a common goal, which is something I always enjoy. The one thing that held this back from being a book that I would go back to repeatedly, was the timeline was really short. Insta-love is a big turn-off for me when it comes to books. The thing that I felt saved this was the fact that the MCs have known each other at least professionally for a while, so they have an established relationship. sem crÃticas | adicionar uma crÃtica
