I love detective books and Melinda Leigh always captures my thrilling seeking side as well as my emotional side. This book legit made me feel emotional and cry. One of my favorites ❤❤❤ ( ) I don’t get the Goodreads high score. It’s too long for such a banal story. It is the same old police procedural story of a murder with many suspects and whodunit. There are scenes that are right off a B-series movie: protagonists are about to break into a house and suddenly the time suspends for them to calmly sympathize over their childhood traumas in what feels like 10 minutes of real time. Too many useless details like how you pronounce Focaccia and how the sister is a vegetarian. Maybe it’s a good book in the genre and I just happen to dislike the genre and that’s why it feels overrated to me. My thanks to the Author publisher's and NetGalley for providing me with a Kindle version of this book to read and honestly review. This is the first book I have read by this Author but it certainly won't be the last, in fact i have a few already in my to be read pile. An absolute quality read, well written character driven story with some cute animals thrown in for good measure. Engaging and entertaining from first to last page, with plenty of surprises along the way. In particular there is a shoot out that was so exciting and tense i found I was actually holding my breath. I look forward to reading more of brave clever fearless Bree. Completely recommended. Bree is a homicide detective with a horrible past. A phone message from her sister Erin sends Bree back to her hometown and finds that Erin has been murdered. Pairing up with former deputy Matt, the two of them start a parallel investigation with the police. Erin's estranged husband, who is Matt's best friend, is the accused and missing, her children's father is skulking around making threats, and her friends and employer all have suspicion clinging to them. Bree and Matt cobble clues together and are in the killer's sights as they try to solve who killed Erin. Bree's past haunts her with similarities in the murder and she has more responsibilities taking care of her niece and nephew. She and Matt work well together and it might be the start of a beautiful relationship. Fast paced and I couldn't figure out who the murderer was until it was revealed. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series. Detective Bree Taggert returns to her home town after her sister Erin leaves a fearful voice message asking for help. With assistance from Matt, a close friend of Erin's husband, Justin; and her partner Dana, and the local sheriff Todd Harvey she investigates what happened to her sister.. This case brings back unwelcome memories of a life-changing event that occured when she was a child. She now has to think of Erin's kids, Luke and Kayla. A quick exciting read. sem críticas | adicionar uma crítica
