This was the last book that was written by M.C. Beaton before she died. As far as I am concerned it was the best as well. Agatha was in hot demand by many men as it should be! She had her own detective agency. I just loved it! ( )

When Private Detective Agatha Raisin learns that friend and (sometimes) lover Charles Fraith, is about to be married to the obnoxious, scheming socialite, Mary Brown-Field, Agatha joins forces with Gustav (Charles’ butler) and the entire detective agency to expose the Brown-Field family for the sleazy con-artists that they are.
Agatha is in high form in this Agatha Raisin episode - always well-dressed, groomed to perfection, man-crazy, brazen and opinionated to the extreme.
This is a great read for Agatha Raisin fans. HOT TO TROT: AN AGATHA RAISIN MYSTERY is Book #31 in the series. (Book #31. Amazing!) The series originated with M. C. Beaton (pen name of Marion Chesney) with THE QUICHE OF DEATH in 1992.
M. C. Beaton was a very prolific writer and wrote several series including Agatha Raisin, Hamish Macbeth and Edwardian mysteries and romances.
When Ms. Chesney died in 2019, many thought this was the end of her many popular characters. But this particular title, HOT TO TROT, contains interesting and important information about M. C. Beaton and the writer she worked very closely with before her death to ‘carry on’ her characters after her passing.
I am very impressed with this writer, R. W. Green, and this new Agatha Raisin title. Agatha is a bit ‘sharper’, more in-focus, more introspective and reflective. There is more location description and information which I find very pleasing. I especially liked the Dedication, the Forward and Introduction. The Introduction from Ms. Chesney herself was very moving.
Cheers to M. C. Beaton (Marion Chesney) and her characters, and the writer, R. W. Green, who is bringing them to life once again.

In a matter of days, Charles becomes a married man, a widower, and a suspect in his wife’s murder. Agatha is determined to find out who hated Lady Mary enough to murder her, but the problem isn’t that there are no suspects. There are too many! This exciting mystery has Agatha dashing from one thing to another, and in the midst of all the subterfuge and anguish, her attraction to her ex-husband James is beginning to flame again. And James is the one fanning the flame. It’s a fun romp from beginning to end. This book was coauthored by M. C. Beaton and R. W. Green, and I enjoyed it as much as any other Agatha Raisin mystery. The book flowed seamlessly, and if Agatha seemed a bit less acerbic, I’m all for it. Marion Chesney left an impressive legacy, including her beloved Agatha Raisin series, and I can only hope that author R. W. Green continues it in her honor and memory. ( )

This is my first Agatha Raisin mystery and now I look forward to reading the 30 that came before. Like Jessica Fletcher, she continually is enmeshed in mysteries. Running a detective agency in the Cotswolds takes a lot of energy. And now she’s struggling with the upcoming marriage of her friend and sometimes lover, Sir Charles. Is he marrying for love or for the money which comes with his bride. Her investigative skills come into play when Sir Charles is murdered. This series was taken over by R.W. Green. With no knowledge of the previous books, I found this a humorous satisfying and cozy book to read. I loved the audio version. ( )

Agatha Raisin is not my favorite of MC Beaton's characters. I decided to try her again now that we have lost this wonderful author. I found Hot to Trot to be enjoyable. I didn't quite understand the role RW Green had in this book. I'm not sure if he wrote it, finished it, or collaborated on it. He did introduce the novel and describe his relationship with Ms Beaton. I still don't love the Agatha Raisin character and found way too much fashion description for my taste, but it was a good mystery with a satisfactory solution. Penelope Keith is an excellent narrator, really gives life to the story. My thanks to NetGalley and Blackstone Audiobooks for sharing an advance copy of this title in exchange for my honest review. I will say Blackstone Audiobooks is one of my favorite publishers of Books on CD and downloadable titles. They have a fabulous editorial staff and great readers. ( )
