I guess this book could fall into the category of beach read - fast paced with not a single likable character and short, choppy sentences. Ironic that there was much criticism of the writer character's extremely long sentences... True to the Chekov saying, the gun does go off in the final act, sadly, it didn't kill any of the characters. ( ) so funny and wickedly sharp, perfect for right now. I accidentally read the last line a day or two ago and kept anticipating the ending, but it was still a surprise. That's a compliment to her skills at writing tension. Great read. Still laughing. Up there with Shteyngart, Alissa Nutting, Sam Lipsyte... I think of [b:Bad Marie|7506204|Bad Marie|Marcy Dermansky|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1327916109l/7506204._SY75_.jpg|9688409] by Marcy Dermansky as a near-perfect book, and the only reason I didn't write "a perfect book" is because it's more perfect than perfect--like all the most perfect of things, it has a fatal flaw or two to keep it interesting. And then came [b:The Red Car|34082140|The Red Car|Marcy Dermansky|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1500664369l/34082140._SX50_.jpg|48998613] which was almost, almost as near-perfect as Bad Marie. So it could be just by comparison that I thought this book was just "very good." After two novels that were wrenchingly feminist in their own, unique, fascinating, and strangely dysfunctional way, this novel seemed to land in a less strange and less marvelous country, to my mind. sem críticas | adicionar uma crítica
"From the acclaimed author of The Red Car, a comic novel of race, money, sex, liberalism, and bad behavior in our post-Obama, era featuring a wealthy Connecticut divorcee, her college-age daughter, and the famous Pakistani-American novelist who seduces them both"-- Não foram encontradas descrições de bibliotecas. |
