Molly is an unappreciated, emotionally tortured mother and wife. The story opens with her driving in a torrential downpour of dangerous weather... and then she runs out of gas. This poor woman, already distraught on the lack of love and respect shown from her husband and adult children, she's relieved when a man and young daughter rescue her in the rainstorm. Of course, she isn't "rescued" at all. It's Day One of more than two weeks that play out in this fast-moving suspense story told from both Molly's POV and also her young adult daughter, Nic (Nicole) who is feeling the guilt at how she's treated her mother over the years, her mother who is now missing. "Mick," the name Molly has given her captor, can be one of several men in the story and with each page turned, my guess changed! The author did a great job of portraying the multi-layers of 9yo, Alice, the girl living with Mick, who at times is endearing to Molly, and other times cruel to her, a girl suffering emotional abuse herself. It's a great read and I need to go back and read more Wendy Walker novels! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me a copy of this book. If you even remotely like suspense, mystery or thriller novels, you are going to DEVOUR this book by Wendy Walker! From the beginning to the very end, you are on an emotional rollercoaster as she develops her characters beautifully. The shocking twists leave you hanging on every word. It has your evil, sick and demented characters naturally, but it also shows the love and strength of what a mother daughter bond can really be...even, when they didn’t have that bond before evil entered the picture. Thank you to St Martins Press and NetGalley for an ARC in return for my honest review. I’m becoming a fan of this author after reading this and Emma in the Night. I like what she does with her stories and how complicated everything is. Plus, there’s always a surprise even if you figure out part of what’s going on beforehand. I’m a big fan of the multiple twist mysteries. This book sometimes seemed a little unreal, but I couldn’t help but get lost in the small town of Hastings and all it’s dysfunction. This is a 5 star book for me— Oh and I read it in audio and loved that format for this! This book was a much needed respite after having to read multiple boring nonfiction texts. I haven’t read a page-turner like this in awhile and it was completely different than anything I’ve ever read. The pace was absolutely perfect, each chapter ending with the push to read more. The honest feelings felt by each character were a refreshing change of pace, having dealt with my fair share of grief, the guilt and coping mechanisms described were very relatable. Surprising twists and turns kept me theorizing about the outcome until the very end, and amidst a trend of unresolved finales, I was pleasantly surprised. As a relatively new reader to Wendy Walker, I have been more than pleased with what I’ve read and she has found a fan in me. Thank you, St. Martin’s Press, for allowing me to read an advanced copy. The opinions are my own. sem crÃticas | adicionar uma crÃtica

This is one of the better books that I have read this year. I have read The Night Before by Wendy Walker which I loved and this is no different. I can for sure get behind the obsession that is Don’t Look for Me. I actually received an arc of this book when it was first published and for some reason never got around to downloading it. My apologies. So, when I saw it at Barnes and Noble on my last trip I knew I had to have it. The cover really draws you in. Now let us talk about the book.
Don't Look for Me is a book about a mother who goes missing and her fierce daughter who is determined to find her. Nicole will find her mother regardless of all the evidence leads to the fact that her mother does not want to be found. The main theme in the book is child-parent bonding and the strong love of a mother who fights to survive. It addresses loss, grief, and guilt. If those are your triggers please give yourself time to heal before you pick this one up but it is for sure with the time.
It is well-written and character-driven. The story is told from two different points of view, Nicole the daughter and Molly the mother. When a family experiences a traumatic loss, each family member griefs differently and this was addressed in the book gently. It was also the main inner drive between Nicole and Molly. This is known to the reader because it was very well described and beautifully depicted in the writing. It's a fast-paced read that will keep you turning every page just to find out what happened to Molly. I was pleasantly surprised by the ending. I hope you get to meet Alice, a character I loved! You might not understand her in the end but you will love her.
