Leslie got me started on Pilcher’s books with The Winter Solstice. Because of that, I decided to try to read her books in reverse order. As I get closer to her earliest books, I expect to be let down since Winter Solstice was considered such a pièce de resistance. I have found that her style remained the same throughout her writing, although perhaps she went deeper with later characters. I am a huge fan of her books. The reader of the audiobooks is very good, as well. ( )

Rebecca found out she has family in Cornwall and goes for a visit. Meets an obnoxious man and falls in love with him in the space of a week. Meanwhile, her cousin falls in love with her as well. All this while Cornwall is having its stormy season.

Who knew there were palm trees in England? I sure didn't. ( )

Enjoyed the concept of a female finding out about her family but only on her mother's side. The entire story takes place in the matter of a couple weeks following the death of the mother. The ending helped me to understand why Rebecca's mom left her family but yet never had the guts to come back. ( )

Rebecca Bayliss has only had her flighty mother for family. Then on the day her mother dies rebecca finds out she has family in Cornwall. Rebecca goes to visit her grandfather, who was a famous painter. She's attracted to both the mysterious Joss Gardner and her cousin Eliot. This book was written int he 1970's and I found it to be a bit sexist. How could rebecca possibly want to live by herself in London instead of getting married, especially at the ancient age of 21. I also found it a bit icky that one love interest was her cousin. For the time this was written and the genre of book it's ok but I never would have read this if I didn't share a birthday with Ms. Pilcher. ( )
