Title: Killer Takes All (A Duff MacCallister Western #10)
Author: William W Johnstone and J. A. Johnstone
Pages: 368
Year: 2020
Publisher: Pinnacle
My rating: 5 out of 5 stars.
Duff MacCallister is a Scottish immigrant who now is a successful Angus Cattleman and large landowner in Chugwater, Wyoming. Duff is a man of principle who fights for what is right and stands by his friends no matter what comes their way. In this latest installment, Duff isn’t the one so much injured as his fellow neighbors are by what appears to be a land grab by a railroad company. When the owner of a railroad sends his son to the town to build a connecting spur, the townspeople become divided when the ranch owners want the railroad company to build elsewhere. Why? Well, that is part of what readers will discover as they get lost in the tale!
I have become fond of Duff, Elmer, Wang, and other characters that are bonded together by business, friendship and more. Meagan is Duff’s lady friend who owns a small share in Duff’s ranch and cattle, but their romance is building as well as their abiding friendship. Audiences will get new insight into the backgrounds of the fictional players Wang and Elmer, who are very interesting and unique to the tales in all of the Duff MacCallister novels.
The action and adventure in the book are liberally sprinkled throughout and the climax near the end left me wanting more. The various secondary characters brought to life the fictional town of Chugwater, Wyoming such as the newspaper owner and editor, Mr. Blanton. With real life being as it is, the ability to get lost in the old west with familiar characters is one reason I enjoy curling up with a Johnstone book and I am betting you will too. With each new story, readers will finish a book feeling as if the players are real, the action takes their breath away and leaving you wanting more!
So, enjoy this latest book in the MacCallister Western Series, and if you haven’t yet, enjoy the books that have come before such as MacCallister: The Eagles Legacy, The Killing, Dry Gulch Ambush, Kill Crazy, Kingdom Come, Ten Guns From Texas, Day of Reckoning, The Stalking Death, and Stranglehold. If you’re like me, it is fun reading and seeing evil being vanquished!
