Fantasy. Juvenile Fiction. Juvenile Literature. HTML:The second Fowl Twins adventure, a spinoff of the blockbuster Artemis Fowl series, starts with a bang??literally.
Artemis's little brothers Myles and Beckett borrow the Fowl jet without permission, and it ends up as a fireball over Florida. The twins plus their fairy minder, the pixie-elf hybrid Lazuli Heitz, are lucky to escape with their lives. The Fowl parents and fairy police force decide that enough is enough and the twins are placed under house arrest. But Myles has questions like: Who was tracking the Fowl jet? Why would someone want to blow them out of the sky? What is the bigger picture? These questions must infuriate someone, because Myles is abducted and spirited away from his twin. Beckett and Lazuli must collaborate to find Myles and rescue him. Their chase will take them across continents, deep underground, and into subacquatic super villain lairs. They will be shot at, covered in spit, and be at the receiving end of some quite nasty dwarf sarcasm. Will Beckett be able to come up with a genius plan without a genius on ha… (mais)

This is the second installment of The Fowl Twins, and I felt like it lacked a bit of the magic the first one had. I really enjoy the character of Beckett and his friendship with Whistleblower and I wish there was a bit more of them and a bit less of Myles. Myles appears to have all of the most annoying traits that Artemis had, and I hope he comes back in future books. The plot didn't really keep my attention, I felt like every time I put the book down I had to read back and figure out what was going on again since it was all over the place. Overall it was good, just not my favorite of the Fowl novels. ( )

This was a fun listen. I think i still prefer the previous series, this book I enjoyed a little bit more then book one. I also liked that this book expanded the world a bit. I also did like the adventure in this story, It went in a direction, I did not expect. It was a fun read, but def not a new favorite! ( )

Growing up may be inevitable, but I feel bad for people who give up all their childhood joys (as silly and simple as they are), since there’s definitely no rules that say we can’t hold onto the ones that still make us smile. Case and point: I dove back into Eoin Colfer’s Fowl Twins series as part of my “catch up on sequels” reading goal to kick off 2023, and the whole story was an absolute romp that brought a smile to my face. Colfer set the bar high with the first book about Artemis’ younger twin brothers, and while it’s impossible to match the charm that had us hooked on the tales of the original Fowl offspring, Miles and Beckett are equally fun to follow along with as they get into (inevitable) trouble. Miles plays the role of the brainy twin, mirroring Artemis in many ways, but with a harder edge that is necessarily softened by his twin, Beckett, who relies on animal instinct rather than intellect. As their second story opens, the twins are summarily grounded for their bad behaviour in the previous book and for a more recent escapade which saw a Fowl family aircraft destroyed. They agree to the limits of their punishment, but the world (of course) has alternate plans for them. Diving into an unexplored area of the fairy world, Colfer introduces us to the Horteknut dwarfs, a group whose hatred for humans is rivalled only by their determination to reclaim their family’s stolen gold. Unlike the rest of the fairy world, these dwarfs are not satisfied to live hidden from humanity below the surface and actively seek a reckoning with the species who have wronged them. The Fowl twins are thrust into the ongoing conflict as the dwarfs’ leader decides to use Miles’ intellect to solve a conundrum on their last gold rescue mission - which, of course, Miles loves for the challenge but not so much for the stakes, which almost guarantee the death of the entire Fowl clan. As the story progresses we get to see each of the twins use their unique skills to solve seemingly unsolvable problems, explore fairy lore and politics, and have quite a few laughs along the way, which leaves us with a pretty satisfying narrative arc as we reach the final pages. The story may get a little bit ridiculous along the way (how could it not, with Colfer counting on his trademark tongue-in-cheek writing style to keep us glued to the pages), but the sheer levity of the story and the careful tying up of loose ends by the finale left me with a lovely nostalgic glow. Until I get the next book in the series (because you *know* Miles and Beckett can’t stay out of trouble for too long): you’ll find me reliving my childhood on the playground! ( )

Basically, it's got a lot of action, and it's still keeping up good story lines! If you liked the first book, this is a read for you! If you came here from just finishing the Artemis Fowl series, just read The Fowl Twins! (Book One though) ( )
