A lovely collection of haunting short stories! I really enjoyed reading this book and seeing the narratives from a visceral point of view.

I've always had a soft spot for collections of short stories, and this book did not disappoint. Each story varies in length, but all are well-written. The themes tend toward darker topics; however, that did not detract from the enjoyment. I would definitely recommend this book, and I look forward to future works by the author. ( )

It takes a rare talent to convey a theme or story in a handful of pages or less - Mark Newman manages this with aplomb in this collection and I'll certainly be investigating his other works. Not exactly the cheeriest of tales but will be re-read to pick up the nuances that I probably missed in my first reading. Recommended. ( )

Thanks to Library Thing for a review copy. This is a 3.5 or 3.75 on the enjoyment, and a 4 on the quality. The lower rating for enjoyment is that they just aren't happy or fun. At all. But they are quite well crafted. I was fairly well astonished that a story of less than a page could pack such a punch, I really had no idea. There are plenty of stories of typical lengths, with the short shorts interspersed. It was of a good length overall to be satisfying. Some collections of short stories can be over too quickly. ( )

I loved this collection of stories. Each one made me grapple with reality and forced me to think hard about what each story was actually about: the subtle meaning rarely spoken aloud. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for short, easy to read stories that urge you to think about the deeper meanings in people's thoughts, words, and actions. I give this collection of short stories 5 out of 5 stars. ( )
