Summary:
Albert Einstein had a challenging childhood. His parents didn't see him fitting the norms of the other children, and they worried if something was wrong with him. They tried to force him into the norms, but he always found a way to be himself and find answers his way. His teachers grew frustrated with him, and he was kicked out of school at 15. His first few attempts at getting jobs weren't successful, but he was eventually able to get a job in a patent office. This was when he could start to explore his own experiments and theories. He made strides in physics with the discovery of E=mc^2, photons, and atoms. It was a solar eclipse in 1919 that proved his theory of relativity to be true that publicly validated him as a scientist and genius. He never fit a mold or norm, but he was amazing and affected the world with his science.
Personal Reaction:
I didn't realize that Albert Einstein had such a rough start and childhood. It is encouraging that despite all of his adversity he continued to work and be himself which is a little silly but I would say in a positive way. I watched the movie IQ and I love how silly and sweet the movie is, but also how kind and silly ALbert is portrayed as. I thought it might have been more for the movie sake, but I realize that they did a great job with showing how he was.
Extension Ideas:
Each student could take one of his theories or ideas and research it with a presentation to the class.

Summary:
The story was a biography on Albert Einstein and his journey to becoming the genius we know today. When Albert was young he hardly talked and when he did they were short answers. His parents thought he was being defiant so they hired a tutor to teach him how to play the violin in hopes of Albert becoming disciplined. Throughout his school years he did not have friends and the teachers did not like how he learned independently. He did not like the way his teachers' taught and he was only interested in math and science. When he was in high school, he was kicked out because of his independent ways. He worked hard to get into college and become a science teacher but he had his struggles. He then worked for a Patent Office where he was able to publish articles on photons,relativity an his famous formula for energy. Time passed and he married and had children but the marriage did not last. He worked on different projects until his death.
Personal Reaction:
I like Albert Einstein and how it's possible for a human to be so independent in their ways and become successful. It was interesting to read about his younger days and how he was not happy with the way his teachers taught. I love science and math but I could never come close to his level of knowledge. I was sad to read about his marriage but I was glad to read that he was able to experience life with children. I wonder what he would have come up with if he had lived longer.

1. Students can make time line on Albert Einstein.
2. Have students create a class invention.
3. Learn about patenting.

Personal Reaction: I like this book it showed so much about Einstein that I would have never of known if I didn't read this book.

Classroom Extension: I would use this book when learning about science and you could also do it to learn about his amazing inventions and theories. You could also use this book and tag it along with a video so kids could learn about and understand Einstein.

SUMMARY;
This non-fiction novel is based upon the life of genius Albert Einstein. Albert Einstein spoke late as a child. He said he was waiting to speak in complete sentences. When he spoke, the words were not that of a child. On his fifth birthday he was given a compass by his dad, which later made him who he was. In school Albert disliked strict teachers who did not allow a child to discover new learning. His main interests in school were maths and science.He obtained good grades. His parents encouraged him to explore his mind by allowing him to read, talk and ask as many questions. They also invited medical students to sit with Albert which was a fascination, since he enjoyed science very much.
At fifteen he was asked to drop out of school because teachers at that time could not keep up with a person so open-minded and independent. The key to success is sometimes learned when we have experienced some kind of failure. Albert did experienced failure when he took the entrance exam to become a teacher. He was so confident of his intelligence, he did not study. But that did not deter him. He studied and passed. He went on to discover, the speed of light and that light was made of tiny particles called photons. These photons are responsible for the invention of radios, televisions and others. He later discovered the equation for energy; which helped with the discovery of nuclear energy. Then he published the general theory of relativity, which helped with the discoveries of stars, planets and more through space.
Albert Einstein married twice. His first wife was a physics student who bored his two children. He became a science teacher and was called professor Einstein. Then he divorced and married his distant cousin. He and his new wife traveled a lot and then settled in Germany.He won the Noble Prize in physics in 1922. But since Albert was Jewish, this became a problem. An anti-Jewish leader was born, Hitler. Then he moved to the US and accepted a job at Princeton University. In the US he was given a variety of projects to do. Then his interest moved to humanity and spoke frequently about it. He and his wife received many letters and saved them. Children were always drawn to him. In 1955, Albert Einstein died at 76.

This biography about Albert Einstein was very interesting and informative. This would be age appropriate for grade threes to four.

CLASSROOM:
Students will discuss the biography as a class. The teacher will question them.

They will select a famous person ( musician, sportsman/woman etc) who inspires them and prepare a biography to present to the class. The students will use the format used on face book or my space to help them build a profile about the person they chose. ( )
