Very sweet, probably too sweet for many, but right up my street for the moment. The Glad Game is just another way of saying be thankful. I appreciate the reminder in trying times. I was surprised to learn that the author, Harriet Lummis Smith, was the first Black teacher in the Boston public schools. She did a great job of capturing Pollyanna's life and loves. ( ) This book mainly focuses on Pollyanna and Jimmy’s first year of marriage. It feels a bit episodic, a chain of little household incidents, but tied together with Pollyanna’s usual ability to find something to be glad about in anything. It doesn’t shy away from serious issues like neglected children, family breakup, threatened suicide, death, and eventually war. BUT, hilariously, pregnancy is taboo, referred to obliquely as a secret that makes the mother glow with happiness. Harriet Lummus Smith does quite a good job of carrying on the Pollyanna tradition but with a heavier hand than the original. sem críticas | adicionar uma crítica
