This is written in prose, so it makes for a different (not necessarily difficult) read. Just not something I'm used to. The story line is great though. ( ) Written in verse, this story retells the tale of Lancelot and Guinevere from another's perspective watching their relationship unfold. Filled with anecdotes, adventure, love, and romance, Song of the Sparrow will keep your swooning from the edge of your seat. I cannot recommend this book highly enough to anyone who will take the time to listen to me rave about it! This book is told entirely in verse and is set on the cusp of King Arthur’s court. The poetry of it all isn’t too flowery, and it reads naturally, but with less dialogue and not much time spent on descriptions. We follow Elaine, who is a play on the Lady of Shalot, and she lives with the men at a battle camp and helps heal them. I have always loved the legend of King Arthur and his knights of the Round Table, so this book appealed to me from the start, although I didn't realise that "Song of the Sparrow" was a retelling of Tennyson's "The Lady of Shalott". Elaine was a strong, determined female protagonist who refused to be shackled to women's work. The writing was lovely, especially the descriptions of the forest and I was soon swept up in the story. I appreciated that the story was told from Elaine's point of view and that the author made the women heroic instead of Arthur and his knights. A sweet story. sem críticas | adicionar uma crítica

In fifth-century Britain, nine years after the destruction of their home on the island of Shalott brings her to live with her father and brothers in the military encampments of Arthur's army, seventeen-year-old Elaine describes her changing perceptions of war and the people around her as she becomes increasingly involved in the bitter struggle against the invading Saxons.
