Talise is back! No longer grieving her recent betrayal from Claye or wondering if Aaden can be trusted, accepting that she must fight against her father for the good of her people, she has stepped back into her role as the rightful leader of Kamdaria. Have I mentioned I love Talise?

One of my favorite parts of this book is the Water Festival in chapter two. This particular festival was always planned by the children whether in the Crown or in the Storm. Adults had to participate with whatever the children had planned, whether it was hide and seek, a relay race, or ensuring there was a limitless supply of sweets. It was fun to see the festivities through the eyes of the Storm, as well as the way it helped Aaden and Talise connect over their shared loss.

Talise also starts amulet training along with River and Claye. River tries to kill her every time and Claye says he still loves her. Bummer for him, I think. And Aaden is always there, always by her side, always for her even when he tells her no. He's good for her and I think she is beginning to accept it again. Finally.

But a few questions still remain. How long can the Kessoku and the princess work together? How will Talise free her people? Will she be able to get the Storm to fight with her and will it be enough? I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next.
