A lovely description of the Champagne area of France and the wine making process. The horrors of the Nazi invasion of France. The resistance fighters and those that don't take a stance against the Nazi's or just don't believe it's happening. The frailties of the human spirit. Add to the story a few twists and turns at the end. All go into making a wonderful historical fiction. ( )

What a wonderful historical book. So much going on and so much to understand and figure out but it all comes together in the end of course

I love books about wine/champagne and France and this one had it all. ( )

I found this book to be fascinating, including the notes by the author, in all things relating to the making of champagne. Although I have not liked drinking it in the past, I will try again at the first opportunity with more appreciation. The resistance part of the book was not as dramatic as some other books I have read, but still was good. This is my third book by this author and I plan to read more. ( )

First Historical Fiction book. First Kristin Harmel book. Won't be the last of either.
Intertwining a fictional, yet possible, story of love, regret & perseverance with historical elements of geography, wine production & holocaust. It was a beautifully written story. You might want to keep a box of tissues handy.. ( )
