We got to meet Leila in a previous series and now we get to delve into her heritage and learn more about the fae. I love the addition of the night mares and it's great to see a little more of Hazel and Killian. I'll definitely continue with this series. ( ) This one broke my heart a bit. Not because the romance is so heart-breaking but because for the first third of this first book, this was easily a 4-star rating. At its core, this is very similar to K.M. Shea's other writing but to me, it felt like much more thought went into a lot of it. The FMC wasn't just sassy but actually very thoughtful and demonstrated a level of understanding of her own situation which I have almost never seen in a book of this type before. She felt like a real, complex person that applied her limited understanding to the best of her ability which turns out to be quite a bit more effective than almost any other heroine in a similar position I have read about in other stories. The praise she gets feels actually deserved which is also a first in a long time for me. As I said, the broad strokes are still extremely clichéed and in no way original but many of the characters in this story feel alive and not just like some 2d cardboard cutout of a trope. But as high as all this praise is, the book and its sequels are not able to keep up this level of depth and inspiration. Instead of building on this amazing foundation, the author falls back more and more on tired tropes and the story becomes more and more shallow the further I kept reading to the point where I just gave up not even an hour away from the end of the third book. Not because I was angry but because I was just as tired of the story as the tropes in it became. It ultimately becomes a shallow and cheesy mess with none of the depth that was there in the first book. The glimpses of inspiration that made the beginning so enjoyable light up every once in a while throughout the books but in decreasing frequency and duration. I can only imagine that the author wasn't able to take the time necessary to really build an exceptional story even though she is clearly capable of doing so. Maybe it's also a case of an exceptional book 5 years from now not paying rent now. sem críticas | adicionar uma crítica
