3446. W. E. B. DuBois: The Fight for Equality and the American Century 1919-1963, by David Levering Lewis (read May 20, 2001) I read the first volume of this biography back on Jan 28, 1995, because it won the Pulitzer biography prize. Amazingly, this second volume won this year's bio Pulitzer. So I read it too, though DuBois is not a particular interest of mine, especially in view of his erratic political views after 1945--though actually the account of the time after 1945 turned out to be of great interest. The book has more typos than is normal in a book by a major publisher, and the endnotes (112 pages of them) are not user-friendly. But the book is worth reading because of the inherent interestingness of what it tells of. ( )
