Even before little Ru was born, a fortune teller told his mum that he would one day be famous... It was only a matter of time before he figured out how. Playing dress-up was his favourite game, and thats where he felt most comfortable. Ru went on to study performing arts and then moved to New York to mix things up in a punk band. Later, drag was a way to express himself as an artist. He found success for himself, then wanted to help others find theirs. He inspires us to do what feels right and love ourselves. This witty and wise book features stylish and quirky illustrations and extra facts at the back, including a biographical timeline with historical photos and a detailed profile of the inspiring performer's life.… (mais)

This time Little People Big Dreams hit it out of the park with their story on RuPaul. The things the story does right is that it’s entertaining and it’s modern. They keep the pronouns moving depending on which RuPaul they are talking about whether the man or the drag queen. I do wish they had taken the time to explain what drag was instead of just saying they were the best drag queen. Overall, this book is highly successful, and it feels like RuPaul would be proud of what is in these pages. Since this is a person who is modern and still living, the pictures in the back would have been better if they were in color like they naturally are. ( )

Who doesn't love a little bit of RuPaul? I was so glad to see RuPaul getting their turn in the Little People, BIG DREAMS universe. Everyone has been getting their own book, so it was no surprise to see this fabulous individual shine.

I'll be honest, I didn't like the illustration style again with this one. It made it feel really childish and not in a good way. It didn't look professional or as stylistic that a book for RuPaul could get. For someone who's big in art, fashion and beauty, this book just seemed... lacking.

The biography is the best part of this book. I wanted to learn more about RuPaul and I got a solid background. Ru's life is an interesting one, and an important story to tell. Ru is a fabulous individual who makes waves.

Two out of five stars.

Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group for providing me a free copy of this book in exchange of an honest review. ( )

Well done and colorfully illustrated, this book takes *Free To Be You And Me* from the 70s and brings it into the now by showcasing a flamboyant and well known personage. The story of his/her life emphasizes the goal of loving yourself and making your own magic despite what others may say about you!
I requested and received a free temporary ebook copy from Quarto Publishing Group – Frances Lincoln Children's Books via NetGalley. Thank you! ( )

RuPaul
Little People Big Dreams

I Picked Up This Book Because: I am a huge fan of Ru.

The Story:

As a fan this book did not present any new knowledge for me however I found it very cute and think it would be excellent for small children. Especially those who may feel like they are different. One of the things I love about RuPaul is his commitment to celebrate who you are and love yourself and this book upholds that ideal.
