While I came away from listening to this Audible freebie thinking Vonnegut must have been a great commencement speaker, it had a bit too much repetition for my tastes. ( ) Summer 2018, audiobook: This was a collection of speeches given by Vonnegut many with a focus on the importance of teachers, of community families, education, and deep awareness of the good currently taking place in your life when it is. Many of them covered many other topics, but they kept coming back to these three, which i had a deep appreciation for. Ő a Keserű Bohóc, a Nagy Bölcs Lakli, Mark Twain XX. századi reinkarnációja… ami felelősség. Where was Kurt Vonnegut at my college graduation?! We had George Bush, Sr. In this collection of Vonnegut's commencement addresses, common themes repeat: our need for community, the need to be kind, the empty promises of money and culturally defined success, and the importance of recognizing the good moments in our lives -- hence the title. Very funny, often provocative, and ultimtely wise. A little dose of his inspiration goes a long way.
Master storyteller and satirist Kurt Vonnegut was one of the most in-demand commencement speakers of his time. For each occasion, Vonnegut's words were unfailingly unique, insightful, and witty, and they stayed with audience members long after graduation. As edited by Dan Wakefield, this book reads like a narrative in the unique voice that made Vonnegut a hero to readers of all ages. At times hilarious, razor-sharp, freewheeling, and deeply serious, these reflections are ideal for anyone undergoing what Vonnegut would call their "long-delayed puberty ceremony"-marking the passage from student to full-time adult. This book makes the perfect gift for high school or college graduates-or for parents and grandparents who remember Vonnegut fondly and want to connect with him in a new context.
