The Cascadia Paranormal Society invades the Whistling River Lodge, but they are searching for more than ghosts. Albert Allegheny demands that Lodge-owners Glenna McClain and her new husband Craig Knudsen turn over all the evidence they have collected on Bigfoot. She has spotted a few suspicious things in the forest, but evidence? No way. Except the pandemic has cost the local community dearly, and the dollars this obnoxious man represents could help the town. Then a member of the Society shows up dead, and the resident ghosts go to ground. That means cancelling the Halloween party and Masque Ball, threatening Glenna's bottom line even more-not to mention the poor night clerk accused of the crime. Then Glenna discovers Albert Allegheny is a dangerous fraud out to steal her business. To save her lodge and her community, Glenna has to find the murderer and expose Allegheny for what he is. With a little help from her new husband-the hotel security chief-her best friend-the local resident witch-and some surprise dancing guests, the lodge community team up to solve the crime and save the lodge. The ghosts have few other surprises in mind as well.… (mais)

The 4th in the Whistling Lodge Mysteries. This time it's Halloween at the Lodge with a ghost hunting convention in residence along with Halloween themed parties, mafiosi and murders. To be honest, I found it rather incoherent and uninteresting. I probably won't bother with any more of this series.

I read the second Whistling Lodge mystery a couple of years ago and enjoyed it enough to consider reading another book in the series. Unfortunately I did not enjoy it as much as the second book in the series.
In that book I did not feel that there were any continuity issues by starting with the second book. In the fourth instalment it did feel that a lot had happened in the third book so that I felt a lot of gaps.
The plot was not well developed in this book - rather it seemed to muddle along, with much being made of the various challenges faced by a woman in late pregnancy and the various work around s put in place to manage when things were shut down due to the “plague”.
I also found that the book would have been easier to read if it had been properly proof read - there were unfinished sentences, missing words and incorrect words that meant the writing could not flow.

** Full disclosure: I received this book in exchange for an honest review**

I seem to have a habit of starting cozy mystery series three or four books in, not on purpose mind you, but it seems to happen a lot. I usually find if I can follow along this far into the series, there is a good chance I'll like the rest.

The series is set in the Whistling River Lodge in Oregon and it seems where the paranormal is rather more normal at least some of the time, and the lodge is being invaded by a paranormal “investigation” society, bringing their own chaos to the mix when the typical murder happens.

I found the regular characters all interesting and fun to get to know, and even though I jumped in late in their relationships I had no trouble keeping who was who straight.

The “guest” characters though, they were either to good to be true or like the members of the Cascadia Paranormal Society, they were a little too cartoony and stereotypical for me to take all that seriously.

The mystery was decent, though even more than usual with cozy mystery, it felt like an afterthought, the main focus was on Glenna and her friends and family and dogs, which I am okay with, especially the dogs. That said, once the mystery started to unfold the end resolution while not a complete surprise did have enough twists to be interesting.

I enjoyed this book, it was a fun easy read and I am very interested in reading the first three so I can find out all of the backstories I saw hinted at here and going forward I hope there is even more attention paid to the paranormal side of things hinted at here. ( )

I found this book enjoyable. I think I had a little trouble keeping up because I haven't read the previous books in the series. The setting, characters and little bit of supernatural definitely makes you want to know these people. Despite the many editing & grammatical errors, skips in scenes and hard to understand dialog, I really wanted to know how the story would progress. One thing I did enjoy was the incorporation of the "Plague" and the subsequent shut downs, lay offs, vaccinations and re-opening troubles. I will probably read the first three books in the series at sometime just to get the backstory. ( )
