This was an utter disappointment. I was excited to read The Blame Game by Sandie Jones, and I really thought I would love it. I’ve read one of her books before, and gave it a five star review on Goodreads. (The Other Woman)

The premise of The Blame Game is a therapist, Naomi, lives on this grand piece of land with her husband who is pretty much an event planner, but his job is super sophisticated and stressful. Naomi operates her practice out of a little cottage on the grounds near her house. I am immediately put off by Naomi’s character; she’s naïve with terrible boundaries with her clients. I realize that in order for this story to exist, the main character needs to be a bit foolish in her decision making. Naomi is over-the-top.

Naomi lies to her husband with just about anything that has to do with her private practice. Again, I understand people need to make poor decisions and tell a few lies for the story to exist, but...

I have photos and additional information that I'm unable to include here. It can all be found on my blog, in the link below.

This is my fourth book I have read by [a:Sandie Jones|3917070|Sandie Jones|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1566343107p2/3917070.jpg] and looking back, [b:The Other Woman|38318767|The Other Woman|Sandie Jones|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1525957772l/38318767._SY75_.jpg|57846205] has been my favorite with a four star review.
I also review generously due to I DNF a ton of books, and if I am able to finish a book that should tell you it’s entertaining if there isn’t anything else.

This is an example of one of those books that I was able to quickly finish, but I moaned and groaned the whole time, cussing at the unrealistic stupidity of the MC who is supposedly a professional psychotherapist! The plot of the story is one that would NEVER happen in real life to a professional and I did feel the author made a bad decision to make the MC this profession, because it could have been better otherwise.

The author did try to put doubt into the readers head by including a by story, however, that story was left swinging in the wind completely and it leaves readers wondering what was the point in the first place? That story was more interesting to me anyway admittedly.

All in all, I was able to finish this book in one day. It is an entertaining read and a book that will be easily forgotten.

Thank you NetGalley & Minotaur &Macmillian Audio for my gifted copy.

Naomi Chandler is a psychologist who wants to help her patients who are dealing with domestic abuse. Jacob is dealing with a wife, Vanessa, that abuses him. Anna is worried that she and her husband, Nick, are drifting apart after the death of their son Ben. As Naomi counsels these patients, she sometimes blurs the lines between professional and personal relationship. As she becomes closer to Jacob, her husband, Leon, suspects her of having an affair. When Jacob goes missing, Naomi becomes a suspect in his disappearance.
Naomi also has issues due to the domestic abuse of her mother by her father, and the separation of her sister when they were children.
This is a thriller with an unexpected resolution. Quick read. ( )

The main character is a psychologist, Naomi, who has to be the most inept and moronic professional practicing in London. She crosses many lines when dealing with her patients which results in her constantly lying to her husband. She is working with two different patients, both of whom are domestic abuse victims (supposedly), and she handles each case so badly that I'm surprised she isn't sued for malpractice. She insists on trying to solve the mystery herself of the disappearance of one of these patients, rather than telling the police everything she knows - instead she lies to them! This was a very rushed story, barely more than 200 pages long, and thank goodness for that because I couldn't have stood much more of her nonsense. Author Sandie Jones is going downhill with each of her books, sad to say. ( )

An intricate web of lies that explodes.

“The Blame Game” is Naomi’s first-person narrative. She talks directly to readers, sharing many things, but not everything. She is a therapist specializing in domestic abuse; she wants to help her clients, to change them, and to give them a chance for a better future. Her clients share their troubles and their secrets with her. They may think that she will never truly understand how they feel because she has not experienced what they have, but little do they know that she, indeed, has. She has troubles and secrets that she does not want to share with anyone.

One client has a story different from that of most of her clients. Jacob Mackenzie reports that he has been abused by a woman for ten years. He wants to kill he, so he wants to leave, to “save her” from what he might do. Jacob does “escape,” but that is not the sought-for solution. Jacob is not telling everything, and his relationship with Naomi is perhaps becoming more than it should be. Lies are numerous and nasty.

I received a review copy of “The Blame Game” from Sandie Jones, St. Martin's Press, and Minotaur Books. It is an intricate web of lies that explodes, starting an unexpected a chain of events. Naomi’s clients are not the only ones in danger, she is as well. “The Blame Game” is now available in print, as an e-book, and on audio from independent bookstores, online booksellers, retail stores, public libraries and anywhere you get your books ( )
