I loved this, but I'm always a sucker for books about farm chores and farm cooking. ( ) I'll be honest, I didn't really understand where the book was going until the very last few pages. same for the title of the book. it only made sense when i finished reading it. i enjoyed the "old time" prose as it reminded me of some of the same language used by older family members who lived on farms in northern maine. the author used some interesting elements where she would start chapters and paragraphs with seamingly minor things (such as weather) and them immediately introduce some major event as if it were an afterthought...sometimes turning a page or entering a new chapter suddenly propelled the reader several years ahead in the lives of the characters. slow and methodical, much like the main character, i was bored/sad/mad and happy at times - a lot like life i guess. at the end of the story, i felt glad to have been along for the ride. i guess that's all we can ask for in this world. Here is another very good (excellent, really) read from Rawlings: The Sojourner is based on a fictional farm boy and his family as he grows to manhood and all the trials and tribulation of life and the meaning of family. Lots of good character development, peaceful scenes set in days gone by before/across the turn of the century. sem críticas | adicionar uma crítica
