"Why" It's about the superbowl and it covers the actually loss of the winning team due to an illegal player. Q4P4 AHS/Conner C. I was frankly amazed that I liked this novel. I am not, by any means, a sports fan. This is an interesting story, however, and the two teenage protagonists are engaging and likeable characters. The setting--the SuperBowl--is one any reader can identify, and the behind-the-scenes view of the big event and the media circus which surrounds it is very interesting and believably written. My biggest criticism is that the characters, who are supposed to be savvy and mature journalism professionals beyond their years, are sometimes a bit too savvy-sounding to be entirely believeable. This book would've been the strongest of the series, if it hadn't fallen into the same plot device that Blue Balliett's Chasing Vermeer/The Wright 3/The Calder Game series had: the same people stumbling upon huge cover-ups. Even though I like this story more than the other two, it seems incredibly improbable that these kids would continue stumbling upon huge cover-ups that rock sports to it's very core. The writing's strong, the characters are well written, and the plot's pretty good. But I can't get over that gargantuan plot device to make a single book a trilogy. I have to say that this was better than Last Shot for me. I thought it moved a lot faster. I loved the story about the big shot football player and his close friend the equipment manager. I was a little put off by the frequent references to Susan Carol's height and attractiveness though. Also, the older men putting the moves on her were a little much. I liked the focus on Stevie and how he had to deal with Susan Carol's fame while being sure to do get his work done. The mystery unfolded naturally and I felt like I could recreate the steps the duo took for background research on steroid testing. In light of what's happening with steroids in sports today, this was very timely! sem críticas | adicionar uma crítica
